Several ALMC rooms are approved by the MU Institutional Biosafety Committee for work at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2). These rooms house two Leica SP8 confocal microscopes, the Zeiss Axiovert 200 fluorescent microscope and the Leica GSD/TIRF microscope. Because the safety of our users ranks as a top priority, it is imperative the core staff is aware of the nature of the experiments being conducted at the ALMC, particularly those involving live human or animal cell lines, live bacteria and live transgenic plant materials. Please select below and fill in the appropriate biosafety questionnaire form with respect to your work. The principal investigator must sign and submit the completed form to the ALMC before any planned experiment can commence. Once the form is approved by the core staff, the experiment will be scheduled. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact core staff.
Please note that users can wear gloves to handle their live cells and bacteria, unfixed animal tissue, and other hazardous materials. However, gloves must be taken off before touching the microscope controls, touch screens, or computer keyboards to avoid cross-contamination.
