The Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research’s Animal Infection and Monitoring Services (AIMS) core is led by Dr. Rachel Olson, Chief Scientific Officer of the Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR). AIMS can support work on agents up to BSL-3 in a variety of animal models and routes of infection and access to up-to-date instrumentation.
The LIDR animal facility is AALAC accredited, with 2,478 square feet of updated ABSL-3 space in two independent suites, each with two housing rooms and a dedicated procedure room. The holding rooms at LIDR are suitable for animals from small rodents up to small livestock.
AIMS offers one-on-one consultations, animal model development and refinement services, study support, sample processing and analysis and support for grant and manuscript preparation.
Services
Model Development/Model Refinement
AIMS offers consultation services to aid in the selection of the proper animal model and infection route given investigator’s study goals and limitations.
Study Support
AIMS extends study support for challenges with human-relevant pathogens up to BSL-3. We offer necropsy support, in vivo imaging, post challenge health monitoring and more.
Sample Processing and Analysis
AIMS offers analysis for antibody responses, blood chemistry values, cytokines, cytotoxicity and histopathology.
Reporting and Communication
AIMS coordinates with the LIDR Aerobiology, Immunology and Microbiology cores to ensure a wide range of access to resources. Additionally, AIMS offers pre- and post-study support for grant and manuscript preparation.
