Our mission

The mission of the Molecular Interactions Core (formerly the Structural Biology Core) is to enhance the research infrastructure available to MU life scientists by ensuring sustained access to functional state-of-the-art equipment and expertise in the fields of structural biology, molecular interactions and peptide synthesis.

To accomplish this goal we will:

  • Provide equipment maintenance and infrastructure support for research.
  • Provide structural biology and molecular interactions computational support.
  • Provide an interface for MU researchers seeking structural biology and molecular interactions expertise on campus.

In 2003, a Peptide Synthesis Core was added under the MIC umbrella. The mission of the Peptide Synthesis Core is to provide synthetic peptides in milligram to gram quantities containing non-natural amino acids, metal chelators, peptide-nucleic acid (PNA) conjugates, phospho-peptides, multiple antigen peptides (MAPs), cyclic peptides and fluorescent tagged peptides to researchers across MU.

The Molecular Interactions Core is currently experiencing a growth phase with the addition of new faculty and equipment:

  • NIH S10 funded circular dichroism and florescence measurement system (2021)
  • Microscale thermophoresis instrument Monolith NT.115 (2017)
  • Jasco circular dichroism instrument (2022)
  • Jasco UV-VIS measurement. instrument (2022)
  • Computer aided drug design facility (2017)
  • Nanodisc preparation support (2017)
  • Rigaku SuperNova with Pilatus 200K detector X-Ray System (2016)
  • New instrumentation for dynamic light scattering (2017)

Our continuing goal is to provide access to structural biology and molecular interactions resources, facilitate collaborations between faculty with expertise in structural biology and molecular interaction and other MU life scientists, and help strengthen proposals for extramural funding.
