Chad Troutwine is the latest speaker in the “Learn from the Best” series brought to you by the Griggs Innovators Nexus. Netflix co-founder Marc Randolph and Build-A-Bear founder Maxine Clark spoke to Mizzou students previously.

  • Outsized opportunities and more delicate responsibilities with durable franchises and the people who control them.

  • Overcoming a common Midwestern affliction: Fear of big things.

“Unleashing the Power of Storytelling Across Different Media”

This session will include a sizzle reel of past work and a discussion of upcoming projects, finding the balance in artistic integrity and commercial realities and leveraging existing brands into even larger media franchises.
 

About Chad
Chad Troutwine, JD '96, is the co-founder of Delphi Interactive, which currently holds the video game rights to James Bond 007, and Dragonfire, a film and television studio. Prior to that, he co-founded Veritas Prep, where he served as CEO for 16 years before its acquisition and subsequent IPO by Varsity Tutors; Codesmith, a software engineering academy with campuses in Los Angeles and New York City; Spectrum Station, a network of five preschools in Missouri; Torn Label, an award-winning brewery in the Crossroads neighborhood of Kansas City; and Freakonomics Media, which produces one of the world's most popular podcasts. He has also produced 21 feature films, including two Academy Award winners. 

In recognition of his entrepreneurial endeavors, Forbes magazine named Troutwine their 2002 Forbes Future Capitalist of the Year. Seven years later, Entrepreneur magazine featured him as a Top 20 Trailblazer and Trendsetter, and he is a 2020 and 2022 Emmy® Award nominee. 

Troutwine graduated with honors from MU's School of Law, earned an MBA from the Yale University School of Management, and completed an MPA at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. Chad is a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute and divides his time between Lake Tahoe, California, and Kansas City, Missouri.
