What we do

The MU Rat Testing Center for Somatic Cell Genome Editing is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to provide services for investigators interested in evaluating new genome editing tools and technologies in rats. The specific goals of the Rat Testing Center are to:

  1. Breed and maintain groups of wild-type, reporter and disease model rats for in vivo testing.
  2. Provide the resources and services needed by biomedical researchers to evaluate new reagents/tools related to somatic cell genome editing/gene therapy in relevant preclinical rat models.

Partnering with the NIH-funded Rat Resource and Research Center, we have access to a wide variety of reporter and disease model rats. Our group can work with investigators to provide comprehensive evaluation of somatic cell genome editing tools and delivery vehicles in whole animals and embryos as well as in all tissues and cell types.

Our funding

The MU Rat Testing Center for Somatic Cell Genome Editing is supported by grant #U42 OD035739 from the NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs through the Office of the Director. This funding allows services to be provided on a subsidized, cost-recovery basis.
