The National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program provides support to increase the availability and accessibility of scientific and engineering instrumentation for higher education and nonprofit researchers. The MRI program supports the acquisition and development of instruments and invests in students by training them to become future instrument builders, designers and users. The MRI program is a limited submission opportunity, and MU may only submit three applications: Two for up to $1 million in funding and one for up to $4 million in funding.

This year’s limited submission process for the January 2023 MRI submission differs from previous years. A multifaceted research development process will be offered to support the creation of compelling, competitive proposals for the January 2023 submission window. The first step in this process requires a five-page, single-spaced concept paper be submitted by Monday, May 2, 2022. Only those who submit a concept paper will be considered for the opportunity to work with MU research development staff to develop a submission for the January 2023 MRI competition.

Please review the MU InfoReady internal competition for full details and contact Sarah Polasky with any questions.
