Research Security Training Requirement with the Columns in the background

March 5, 2026

Effective April 1, 2026, principal investigators, co-investigators and individuals designated as key personnel on proposals for all federal grants or flow-through federal funding must complete Mizzou’s one-hour research security training before funding applications are submitted.

This requirement also will be in effect for federal agency awards received after April 1, 2026. Research security training must be completed before we can issue a MoCode for a project’s financial transactions.

This annual training is part of the U.S. government’s larger effort to safeguard federally funded research from foreign interference. Currently, the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation and the Department of Agriculture require the training, and the National Institutes of Health will require it starting May 25, and NASA on Aug. 5. We expect the other federal agencies to quickly follow suit.
