The Office of Research and Economic Development at the University of Missouri has changed its name to the Division of Research, Innovation & Impact (RII) and unveiled a new website to better serve MU’s world-class researchers, scholars, innovators, entrepreneurs and industry partners.

“The name change and new website reflect the division’s dedication to assisting MU’s students, faculty and staff to excel in their pioneering discoveries, scholarly activities, entrepreneurial success and technological advances that tackle grand challenges, improve lives, produce new knowledge, generate jobs and boost the economy in Missouri and beyond,” said Thomas Spencer, vice chancellor for research.

Explore the Research Roadmap

A key feature of the new website is its easy-to-navigate Research Roadmap, a six-step process that leads both new and experienced researchers through the separate phases of research. The roadmap’s guidance provides resources from the initial idea of developing a project through the closeout process. Each step contains a wealth of information for researchers, including professional development opportunities, finding funding sources, writing and submitting a proposal, accepting an award, and setting up and managing a project.

Other highlights of the website:

  • The organization of MU’s economic development programs and resources are included under the university’s Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialization efforts. Easy-to-follow overview pages connect innovators and entrepreneurs with information on intellectual property and inventions, student entrepreneurship, startup companies and the Mizzou Venture Mentoring Service.
  • The broader impacts of Mizzou’s research footprint are highlighted through The Connector, an initiative that links University of Missouri research, resources and ideas to benefit the people of Missouri and beyond.
  • To be of more service to students, faculty and staff, the website includes links to all the division’s departments and a broad repository of necessary forms, policies and templates; health and safety regulatory guidelines; and a growing library of self-paced professional development resources.
  • A guide to all of MU’s advanced technology core facilities and national research centers and resources are featured on the site, too, making it easier for researchers to locate research instruments, equipment, technologies and expertise.

The division encourages students, faculty, staff and industry partners to explore its growing offerings that expand research support and innovation services.
