Keynote

Boosting the public engagement trajectories of scientists: Weaving parallel threads to our research trajectories

Nalini M. Nadkarni, Professor of Biology, University of Utah and National Geographic Society Explorer at Large

Dr. Nalini Nadkarni will discuss ways to weave broader impacts endeavors with research activities that boost public engagement and enhance the capacity and recognition of researchers. 

Nadkarni has published over 150 scientific papers and articles and three books. Her awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the American Association for the Advancement of Science Award for Public Engagement and the National Science Foundation Award for Public Service. She is the subject of the award-winning documentary “Between Earth & Sky.”

In October 2023, Nadkarni, who pioneered the study of Costa Rican rainforest canopies, was named an ambassador for the National Geographic Society. As an Explorer at Large, she will receive support for her research and in bringing accessibility to science and nature across communities.
