Show Me Research Week is a celebration of the exploration and discovery of research, scholarship and creative endeavors that make Mizzou a Tier 1 Research Institution. The heart of this week is the Research & Creative Achievements Symposium which will highlight and showcase research by Mizzou undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Registration to present in the 2024 symposium is now closed.

Frequently asked questions

Any Mizzou undergraduate/graduate student and postdoctoral fellow can participate in the Symposium. 

'Works in Progress' may also be presented - your research does NOT have to be completed.

For 2024, Graduate Professional Council is merging their Research & Creative Achievement Forum with the Show Me Research Week Symposium.

Participants will be split into two categories: Sciences and Humanities. Within those two categories, will be the subcategories listed below. You will choose which subcategory under which your work falls. We highly encourage you to discuss with your mentor which category you should select before applying. 

Sciences: 

  • Social & Behavioral Sciences - projects using research methods appropriate to human behavior and social systems including, but not limited to, psychology, anthropology, sociology, education, public health, economics, political sciences, communication studies, journalism and business. 
  • Life Sciences - lab-based, field-based, or theoretical projects answering basic and applied questions in biology, biochemistry, ecology, biomedicine, etc. 
  • Physical Sciences & Mathematics - experimental and theoretical research in the natural sciences and mathematical sciences, excluding the life sciences. 
  • Engineering Sciences - experimental and applied research designed to understand and build effective structures, systems and processes. 
  • Informatics - interdisciplinary research area utilizing data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and emerging technologies to address scientific and societal issues across diverse data sets, ranging from molecular to satellite levels.

Humanities: 

  • Artistic Expression - visual art pieces, fashion design, music, theater and creative writing. Performance-based projects will also be included in this category.
  • Applied Design - projects that solve a problem with an original design solution including, but not limited to, design projects for theater, architectural studies, photojournalism, graphic design and advertising.
  • Humanities - projects using methods appropriate to study modern and ancient languages, literature, history, philosophy, religion, culture, journalism and other humanities disciplines.

 

No. When you register to present, you must choose the OPT-IN choice for your presentation to be judged. Whether the modality of your presentation is a poster or as an oral presentation - you may choose to whether or not to have it judged when you register to present.

Here are the rubrics that will be used to critique presentations:

Humanities Rubric (For the Applied Design, Artistic Expression and Humanities categories.)

STEM Rubric (For the Behavioral/Social Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Physical & Mathematical Sciences and Informatics categories.)

Distinguished faculty, staff, professionals, and postdoctoral fellows and graduate students that are experienced in their field determined by our head and lead judges will be judging participants in each category.

  • Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will only be judged by faculty, staff and professionals.
  • Undergraduates will be judged by faculty, staff, professionals, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. 

Those participants who OPT-IN to have their presentations judged, their presentations will be critiqued using a set of rubrics (See "Do I have to have my presentation judged?" above to see the rubrics.)

If you do not select to OPT-IN to judging, your presentation will not be considered for an award.

Monetary awards will be given to the top three undergraduate students, graduate/professional students, and postdoctoral fellows. 

Winners will be announced during the Show Me Research Week Closing Ceremonies. Winners will not be announced prior to the ceremony.

You will receive a confirmation email with your answers - it may go to your 'JUNK' or 'SPAM' folder so check there. Your mentor will also receive a confirmation email of your registration.

Due to the expected volume of presenters, we encourage you to apply early. Space is limited.

After you have registered to present, there are still a couple of things for you to complete.

Also, we want to inform you of what will happen leading up to the actual presentation dates.

Presenters will be contacted by Tuesday, April 2nd to let them know when they will be presenting.
