Faculty and mentors

Show Me Research Week will be a week full of academic events to promote Mizzou innovation and exploration of scholarship. All disciplines are encouraged to participate.

Encourage presentation

If you have undergraduate researchers, graduate students or postdoctoral fellows working with you, encourage them to apply to present. During registration, presenters will be able to opt-in to have their presentation judged. After Show Me Research Week concludes, feedback will be sent to both the presenter and faculty/mentor.

Applying to present

Registration is open and closes at noon on Wednesday, March 13.

Apply early. Space is limited and we may have to close registration early when capacity is reached.

Categories

When applying, presenters will select an appropriate category. We will provide a checklist for the registrant to use when speaking with their mentor prior to registering.

For judging purposes, there are two main categories and several subcategories from which to choose.

Judging

During registration, the presenter will have the option to choose to have their oral or poster presentation judged.

  • We will be using the cloud platform RocketJudge
  • Judges will come from an array of distinguished faculty, staff, professionals, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
  • The head and lead judges of each category will oversee the judges to ensure they are qualified.
  • Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will only be judged by faculty, staff and professionals.
  • Undergraduates will be judged by faculty, staff, professionals, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
  • Presentations will be judged by a minimum of three judges.
  • There are two different rubrics; sciences and humanities

Awards

Only presenters who opt-in to have their presentation judged will be considered for an award.

Monetary awards will be given to the top three undergraduate students and graduate and/or postdoctoral fellows. Due to the number of applicants, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will be grouped together.

Winners will be announced during the Show Me Research Week closing ceremonies and not before.

Research that is not publishable

As part of the registration process, presenters are asked if their work can be published online (meaning the abstract and poster can be shared online and open to public view). If the mentee’s work is ‘not publishable‘, then only the project title, author name, mentor name and source of funding will be posted online.

Additionally, a badge or sticker will be provided for participants to place on their poster so attendees and media know their work cannot be shared or posted online.

We direct mentees to speak with their mentor about this before applying.

Incomplete research

Presenters whose research or scholarship is not complete are still encouraged to apply to present their work.
