Limited Submission Announcement

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Millennium Promise Awards: Non-communicable Chronic Diseases Research Training Program (NCoD) (D43) solicits applications for a research training program related to chronic, non-communicable diseases to help build capacity for future local research in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The research areas include cancer, cerebrovascular disease including stroke, lung disease including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), obesity as well as genetics, environmental factors including indoor air pollution, and lifestyle factors related to these conditions. The research that these trainees would be associated with is expected to be of importance in the participating LMICs.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009. Letters of intent should be limited to three pages and should include 1) the low- and middle-income country (LMIC) associated with the proposed training program; 2) the chronic disease(s) and associated life-style behavior-impacted diseases of major importance to the population of the country; 3) the background of the research and training collaborations with the proposed partner institution(s); 4) a description of the proposed training program including the goals, objectives and activities; and 5) the evaluation plan.
