Limited Submission Announcement

NSF solicits proposals for International Research Network Connections (IRNC) to provide network connections linking U.S. research networks with peer networks in other parts of the world; leverage existing international network connectivity; improve the quality of end-to-end networking on international paths; explore experimental networking; and stimulate the deployment and operational understanding of emerging technologies such as IPv6 in an international context. This program supports international research network connections across three areas: production network environments (IRNC:ProNet); experimental networking activities in support of cyber-science applications (IRNC:Exp); and special projects including advanced network development, deployment, security, monitoring, and other approaches (IRNC:SP).

The Production Network Connections and Services (IRNC:ProNet) is the only area for which the number of applications is limited. For this program, the highest priority is enabling and enhancing communication and collaboration between the US and international science and engineering research and education communities. Preference will be given to solutions which provide the best economy of scale and demonstrate the ability to link the largest communities of interest with the broadest services.

Because MU is limited to three applications for the IRNC:ProNet program (no submission limit on the others), letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009. Letters of intent should be limited to a 3-page summary of the proposed project, including 1) the services to be provided, 2) the target communities, 3) the science that will be enabled by the proposal, 4) plans for meeting the evolving service needs of the research and education community, 5) collaborating organizations (if applicable), and 6) plans for organization and governance of the consortia (if applicable).

Amount:

Approximately $1 million per year for up to five years.

MU Deadline:

4:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2009

Sponsor Deadlines:
