Limited Submission Announcement

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation promotes research in chemistry and the life sciences, broadly interpreted, and particularly fosters the invention of methods, instruments, and materials that will open up new avenues of research in science. The Beckman Young Investigator (BYI) Program provides research support to promising young faculty members in the early stages of academic careers in the chemical and life sciences. Projects should show promise for contributing to significant advances in the research fields of interest to the foundation. They should represent innovative departures in research rather than extensions or expansions of existing programs. Proposed research that cuts across traditional boundaries of scientific disciplines is encouraged. Past award recipients have included faculty from a broad range of departments including chemistry, physics, biology, chemical and bioengineering, pathology, pharmacology, and materials science, among others.

To be eligible, an applicant should not have completed more than three full years in their tenure-track or other comparable independent research appointment and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States at the time of application. Regardless of eligibility under this rule, no individual may apply for a Beckman Young Investigator award more than three times.

Because MU is limited to two applications for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009. Letters of intent should be limited to a 1-page summary of the proposed research and a 2-page biographical sketch of the applicant.
