The National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) offer this award to allow established pathobiologists protected time to devote to mouse pathobiology research and to act as mentors for beginning investigator. Candidates must devote an effort of up to 50 percent, and no less than 25 percent, to pathobiology research and mentoring.

Eligible candidates must:

  • hold a DVM, MD, PhD, or equivalent degree
  • be within 15 years of their specialty training
  • have a demonstrated record of meritorious mouse pathobiology research
  • have experience in mentoring
  • conduct up to five years of enhanced mouse pathobiology research
  • serve as mentors for beginning pathobiology investigators, including students
  • be U.S. citizens or noncitizen nationals, or individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, April 25, 2008. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and should include 1) a description of the proposed research project, including a statement on how the proposed project fits the applicant’s research trajectory; 2) how the protected time will advance the applicant’s research; and 3) a mentoring plan.
