The Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) requests concept papers related to Innovative Funding within the Health & Active Communities Initiative (H&AC). H&AC promotes the development of communities where physical activity and healthy eating opportunities are a normal part of daily life. H&AC also works to prevent obesity by supporting projects that make environmental changes (e.g., building walking trails and community gardens), local policy changes in settings such as schools and workplaces, and programs targeting individual knowledge and behaviors.

The focus of Innovative Funding is to identify community gaps in addressing obesity through the socio-ecological model. The socio-ecological model considers all levels of influence in an individual’s life that can be addressed to support a healthy lifestyle. Innovative Funding seeks projects that prioritize environmental and policy change strategies, include multi-sectoral interventions, and build upon and work with existing obesity prevention efforts in the targeted community.

Applicants can requests funds for a new program or expand upon an existing program. The intervention model may be evidence-based or an example of a promising practice. H&AC applicants may request up to 10% of their budget for planning.
