The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City (The Foundation or HCF) strives to improve access and quality of health for the medically indigent and underserved individuals and communities by providing financial support and leadership directed toward all aspects of health in Kansas City, Missouri and a six-county service area (Missouri: Cass, Jackson, Lafayette Counties; Kansas: Allen, Johnson, Wyandotte Counties). The Foundation is committed to supporting high-quality activities that produce measurable improvement in access and quality of health. Demonstrating the need for grant-funded activities, tracking/reporting outcomes, and responsible use of grant funds are basic expectations of the Foundation.

The target population for Mental Health grants is across the lifespan. Grant applications for the Mental Health grant cycle should address:

· Co-occurring disorders (substance abuse and psychological issues)
· Depression
· Family, Domestic and Child Abuse

Because the University of Missouri campus is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, January 4, 2008. Letters of intent should be limited to three pages, including the following: 1) need or case statement that discusses the problem or need to be addressed by your project or program; 2) grant purpose statement that explains the project/program that the proposed grant will fund, followed by a brief description of the project/program activities; and 3) amount of funding to be requested and the proposed grant period.

Amount:	The Foundation anticipates awarding $8 million in Mental Health grants. Grant periods can range from 14 months to 3 years. Collaboration and the leveraging of funds are important to the Foundation, and preference will be given to applicants that leverage resources from other sources. The Foundation will consider requests for 50 – 75% of the cost of the proposed project or activity. It is recommended that matching funds use a balanced approach of external cash and in-kind resources.
