The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) recognizes that future improvements in the treatment and prevention of kidney disease will rest largely on the accomplishments of individuals now commencing their investigative work. Young investigators are often hampered in their progress by difficulty in obtaining suitable financial support for their research during the formative period of their careers. The NKF has established a Young Investigator Grant Program to help alleviate this problem. The purpose of the Young Investigator Grant Program is to support research in the fields of nephrology, urology, and related disciplines by individuals who have completed fellowship training and who hold junior faculty positions at university-affiliated medical centers in the United States.

Eligibility:

• Hold an M.D. or Ph.D. degree
• Completed research training in nephrology, urology, or closely related fields prior to the start of the grant award with intention to pursue research directly related to these areas.
• At the time funding begins, must hold a full-time appointment to a faculty position at a university or an equivalent position as a scientist on the staff of a research oriented institution.
• Faculty rank of assistant professor.
• No later than four years after initial appointment to a faculty position. Candidates who received a faculty appointment before July 1, 2004 would not be eligible for this award in this funding cycle.
• Be a dues paying professional member of the National Kidney Foundation, Inc. at the time of application.
  

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, November 2, 2007. Letters of intent should be limited to a two-page summary of the proposed research and a two-page biographical sketch of the nominee.
