National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD), and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) have announced the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Initiative in Reducing and Eliminating Health Disparities: Intervention Research Phase (R24) to support disease intervention research in reducing and eliminating health disparities using community-based participatory research that is jointly conducted by health disparity communities and researchers. The overall goal of the initiative is to support community-based participatory research in planning, implementing, evaluating and disseminating effective interventions for diseases disproportionately affecting racial and ethnic minority and health disparity populations with low socioeconomic status, medically underserved populations, and those living in rural areas in the U.S.

NCMHD is interested in supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of effective disease intervention research studies using community-based participatory research (CBPR) principles and methods to reduce and eventually eliminate health disparities in major diseases of public health importance. Diseases of major public health importance may include cancer, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hepatitis B or other conditions of concern to the community.
