The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) will give the Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship to recognize an outstanding junior faculty member who has demonstrated (1) leadership in addressing inequities in medical education and health care; (2) efforts in addressing the educational, societal, and health care needs of minorities; and (3) a strong commitment to a career in academic medicine.

The nominee must

• be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
• hold the rank of full-time assistant professor in a LCME-accredited U.S. medical school department;
• have held the assistant professor position for no more than three years,
• have received only one appointment as assistant professor; and
• hold an MD or a PhD, or have earned another doctoral degree.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, March 2, 2007. Letters of intent should be limited to a 2-page biographical sketch of the applicant and a 1-page summary of the applicant’s demonstrated leadership, efforts in addressing needs of minorities, and commitment to academic medicine.
