The American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) presents the Humanism in Medicine Award to recognize a medical school faculty physician who exemplifies the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students. The goal of the award is to emphasize and reinforce among medical school faculty and students the importance of humanistic qualities in physicians and to enhance interactions between medical school faculty and students.

The national recipient will be honored at the 2007 AAMC Annual Meeting Awards Dinner and will be invited to speak to the OSR about the importance of humanism in medicine. The honoree will also receive a crystal award piece and a grant of $5,000. The recipient's institution will receive $1,000 for support of OSR activities.

Because MU is limited to one nomination for this award, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, February 27, 2007. Letters of intent should be limited to a 2-page biographical sketch of the nominee and a 1-page summary of the nominee’s demonstrated efforts to serve as a caring and compassionate mentor demonstrating positive mentoring skills, involvement in community service, compassion/sensitivity, collaboration with students and patients, and modeling ethics of the profession.
