The American Historical Association (AHA) offers the Albert J. Beveridge Award in American History for a distinguished book in English on the history of the United States, Latin America, or Canada, from 1492 to the present. Books published after May 1, 2006, and before April 30, 2007, are eligible for the 2007 award. Biographies, monographs, and works of synthesis and interpretation are eligible; translations, anthologies, and collections of documents are not eligible. Books that employ new methodological or conceptual tools or that constitute significant reexaminations of important interpretive problems will be given preference. Literary merit is also an important criterion.

This committee also administers the John H. Dunning Prize. To be eligible for the Dunning Prize, the entry must be the author's first or second book. Books entered for the 2007 Dunning Prize will automatically be considered for the 2007 Beveridge Award; there is no need to submit duplicate copies of a work.

Because MU is limited to five titles for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2007. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and should include 1) the title and synopsis of the book to be submitted, 2) methodological or conceptual tools employed in the book, and 3) an overview of the significance of the book to the field.

The prize amount awarded to recipients varies year to year, based upon the total funds available in the bequest, as well as the number of prize winners.
