The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is calling for proposals to develop an Obesity Nutrition Research Center (P30) to bring together clinical and basic science investigators from relevant disciplines to enhance and extend the effectiveness of research related to the field of obesity, eating disorders, and energy regulation, with clinical and/or translational applications in these areas. The research base related to obesity can include a focus on behavior, physical activity, energy metabolism, body composition, cell biology, or nutrient metabolism. Centers are encouraged to include a clinical component. Applicants should consult with NIDDK staff concerning plans for the development of the Center and the organization of the application.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, February 16, 2007. Letters of intent should be limited to a three-page summary, including 1) existing research base, 2) the proposed research projects, 3) proposed core facilities, 4) plans for the Pilot and Feasibility (P/F) program, and 5) plans for an Enrichment program.


An applicant may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for direct costs up to $750,000 per year

Non-required letters of intent are due by May 25, 2007. The deadline for submission of applications is June 22, 2007.
