The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) invites Superfund Basic Research and Training Program (SBRP) applications which protect human health through basic and applied research. The SBRP was created as a network of multi-project programs of multidisciplinary teams of scientists conducting science ranging from basic mechanistic biomedical and non-biomedical (e.g., hydrogeology, geochemistry, engineering, ecology, etc.) research to applications-oriented research in order to address the broad, complex health and environmental issues that arise from the multimedia nature of hazardous waste sites.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, November 3, 2006. Letters of intent should be limited to three pages and summarize: 1) the scientific theme and the interdisciplinary interactions this theme will foster; 2) brief descriptions of each anticipated research project core and support cores as described in the RFA; and 3) a brief description of how the proposed research fulfills the goals of SBRP as described in the RFA. Include a two-page biographical sketch for all key personnel.


Up to $2.1 million in direct costs per year for up to five years.
