The American Philosophical Society awards a limited number of Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation for research in internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. The committee emphasizes patient-oriented research.

The fellowships are designed for qualified persons who have held an MD or MD/PhD degree for fewer than eight years. The fellowship is generally intended to be the first post-clinical fellowship; but each case will be decided on its merits. Preference is usually given to candidates who have not more than two years of postdoctoral training and research. Direct contact with patients is required.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, August, 2006. Letters of intent should be limited to three pages: a 1-page summary of the proposed research and the expertise of the applicant’s scientific advisor, and a 2-page biographical sketch of the applicant.


$50,000 per year for up to two years
