Dermatology Foundation fellowships support training in research skills relevant to dermatology and cutaneous biology. Although it is recognized that fellowships will encompass specific research projects, they are intended primarily for the support of research training. Funding is available for projects in dermatology and cutaneous biology, with the emphasis on research benefiting the dermatology community at large. Special fellowships are available in the areas of epidermolysis bullosa, laser surgery, and melanoma.

Applications are accepted from individuals holding MD, MD/PhD, or DO degrees who have completed their clinical training in a dermatology program. Individuals with an academic appointment at the level of assistant professor or above are not ordinarily eligible for this award. Applicants have to be either within four years of their terminal degree or within two years from completion of their residency at the time of funding of the application. Requests for adjustments in the time limitation due to illness, childbirth, or other mitigating circumstances will be recognized.

Research must be conducted in the United States, and the applicant must designate a preceptor who has an academic appointment within a department or division of dermatology. Awards are made only to individuals not receiving simultaneous salary support from another granting agency.

Because MU is limited to two applications for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, August 11, 2006. Letters of intent should be limited to a 1-page summary of the proposed research and a 2-page biographical sketch of the applicant.
