The Physicians' Foundation for Health Systems Excellence (PFHSE) Excellence In Practice program will support projects that enhance the capacity of practicing physicians to provide excellent care for their patients. Priority will be given to projects that focus on replicable strategies for small and solo practices while moving the profession forward in its pursuit of timely, personal, and well-informed patient care. The Foundation currently focuses support in three priority areas:

Patient Safety--physicians' efforts to improve patient safety and the health status of their patients through innovative and practical strategies for use in the practice setting.

Physician Education--assist physicians in practice as they apply the latest clinical and technological developments to enhance the delivery of high quality health care, and expand their practice-related skills

Quality Improvement in Physician Practice--assist physicians in understanding or implementing techniques for systematic change in the organization or manner of practice activity that lead to demonstrably better patient outcomes.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2006. Letters of intent should be a draft of the 2-page concept paper to be submitted to the Foundation, including a) problem or need to be addressed; b) purpose of the project; c) description of the proposed project, including a summary of activities, timeline, and how outcomes will be measured; d) anticipated impact both locally and on the larger healthcare system; and e) background and qualifications of the applicant organization.

Amount: From $100,000 to $500,000, depending on the size of the organization and project
MU Deadline: 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2006 (letter of intent)
