Towards the goal of catalyzing the production of a scientific workforce capable of integrative research crossing traditional disciplinary boundaries, the NIH invites applications for Training for a New Interdisciplinary Research Workforce (T90). These programs will support a variety of new and innovative didactic and research experiences designed to provide students with the knowledge and research experiences necessary to develop interdisciplinary solutions to complex health problems and to increase quality and years of healthy life and eliminate health disparities. This request for applications is an initiative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Roadmap, a series of activities whose goal is to accelerate both the pace of discovery and the translation of therapies from bench to bedside. Each application may include any one or combination of the following full-time training programs:

  • an undergraduate institutional research training component that will combine coursework and hands-on laboratory/field experiences (R90)
  • a short-term faculty education component for independent faculty-level scientists who are interested in interdisciplinary research (R90)
  • a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) institutional predoctoral and/or postdoctoral training component (T90)
  • a non-NRSA institutional predoctoral and/or postdoctoral research component (R90)

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, February 3, 2006. Letters of intent should be limited to a 3-page summary of the proposed project including the training programs to be included, disciplines to be involved, and anticipated training and research experiences to be provided.

Amount: Upper amount of $325,000. An applicant may request a project period of up to four years with annual direct costs of new funds not to exceed $325,000.
