The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is inviting applications for cooperative agreements to conduct randomized clinical trials (RCTs) to test the effectiveness of interventions delivered in routine clinical practice on achieving weight loss in obese patients who have other cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs). The interventions should be based on prior evidence, be two years in duration, and have patient Body Mass Index (BMI) as the primary outcome.  The secondary focus of these effectiveness RCTs is to incorporate the weight loss strategies with approaches to improve the application of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to reduce the other CVRFs commonly present in obese patients.  Such CVRFs include elevated Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDL)-cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or cigarette smoking.
