The Corporation for National and Community Service will make Community-Based awards to “grant-making entities” to provide subgrants to implement service and service-learning programs for school-age youth or to provide training and technical assistance to such programs. Programs may, for example, propose to provide new after-school programs in which youth participate in service-learning or add community service and service-learning as significant activities in existing after-school programs. Alternately, a community-based program might provide training and technical assistance to a network of youth-serving programs to incorporate high-quality service and service-learning practices into their existing programs. Funds will be used by intermediary organizations to create curriculum materials; support training and technical assistance activities; make subgrants to local organizations that will implement service-learning programs for youth ages five to seventeen; and strengthen, expand, and anchor a network of youth-serving community-based organizations that implement service-learning programs.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, December 16, 2005. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and should include 1) a notation that the applicant intends to apply for a Community-Based Grant; 2) whether the project will have a nonprofit or commission focus, 3) a summary of plans for identifying, funding, and supporting local programs; and 4) anticipated performance measures.
