The US Dept. of Energy (DOE) will host a workshop at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on February 14-15, 2006.  The objective of the workshop is to stimulate greater collaboration between DOE/EERE and ORNL scientists and engineers and NASULGC-affiliated institution scientists in the building technologies area, including research, development, extension/deployment and curriculum advancement. Overviews will be provided of student and faculty research opportunities at ORNL, DOE competitive solicitations and other Federal opportunities, and the building technologies research laboratory facilities at ORNL and how to access them. Scientists and engineers from ORNL will describe experimental apparatus capabilities, ongoing research programs, and future collaboration opportunities.  Partnering breakout sessions will cover the gamut from research to curriculum advancement opportunities. The workshop general overview sessions, laboratory tours, and breakout sessions are described in the attached agenda.

Nominees to attend might be derived from faculty/students in various fields of engineering, architecture, design, material sciences, building sciences, and agriculture. Nominees must indicate their preferred partnering breakout sessions (listed in agenda), and include a two-page CV with current position, all contact information, research, extension, and/or other interests, and recent relevant publications or activities. In addition, nominees must submit a statement of interest and anticipated benefits of attendance (200 words max).

A limited amount of funding will be available to partially defer the cost of participation for young investigators and representatives from minority serving institutions. Those requesting support must also include a one page statement and justification of need.

Because MU is limited to three submissions for this workshop, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, November 18, 2005. Letters of intent should include all requested information as stated above–preferred breakout sessions, two-page CV, and statement of interest.

MU Deadline: 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 18, 2005 (letter of intent)
