Microsoft will award two-year fellowships to outstanding computer science, electrical engineering or math PhD students with preference given to students completing their second or third year in a PhD program. Applications will be accepted only if nominated by university department chairs, their designees, or by an MSR Researcher.

Because MU is limited to three applications for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, October 7, 2005. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and should include a thesis proposal and c.v. or resume.

  • The fellowship recipient award will cover 100% of the tuition and fees
  • A stipend is provided to cover living expenses while in school ($20,000 for 2006-07).
  • A conference and travel allowance is provided for recipients to attend professional conferences or seminars ($2,000 for 2006-07).
  • All recipients will be interviewed for an MS Research summer internship and could be offered a salaried internship at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington or Mountain View, California.
  • Each recipient will be given a TabletPC preloaded with Microsoft software.
  • Scholarships are awarded to recipients for two academic years and may be extended up to a maximum of three years. Extensions will be contingent upon meeting the Fellowship criteria for the third year and will be granted at Microsoft's discretion.
