The Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellowship Program is seeking nominees who are advancing computing research in novel directions with the potential for high impact and who demonstrate the likelihood of becoming thought leaders of the field. The objective is to stimulate and support creative research by promising researchers who have the potential of making a profound impact on the state of the art in their research discipline.

The new faculty member must hold a tenure-track faculty position in a U.S. or Canadian Research University. They may be no more than six years from the completion of their most recent PhD, ScD, MD, or PhD. The applicant must be in their first, second, or third-year as a new faculty member in their first faculty appointment.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, September 26, 2005. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and should include the following: 1) an outline of the innovative merit of the nominee’s research and its potential to advance the field, and 2) a summary of the proposed research.

Amount: $200,000
