The NSF Bioengineering and Bioinformatics Summer Institutes Program provides undergraduate and early-stage graduate students majoring in the biological sciences, computer sciences, engineering, mathematics, and physical sciences with well-planned, interdisciplinary bioengineering or bioinformatics research and education experiences in active summer institutes, thereby increasing the number of individuals pursuing careers in bioengineering and bioinformatics at the graduate level and beyond.

Bioengineering and bioinformatics are considered here in their broadest sense, including, but not limited to, the following areas: tissue engineering, biomaterials, drug delivery systems, implant sciences, biosensors, platform technology development, computational modeling, algorithm development, medical imaging, and image analysis.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office ofResearch, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, October 7, 2005. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and should include brief descriptions of the following: 1) didactic training experiences, 2) associated interdisciplinary bioengineering and bioinformatics research experiences, and 3) plans for recruiting students from outside MU.

Amount: Up to $150,000 per year for up to four years.
MU Deadline: 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2005 (letter of intent)
NSF Deadline:

November 29, 2005 (full application)
