The current focus of the Carnegie Scholars Program is on supporting scholars whose research relates to intellectual and policy developments in Islam and Muslim communities. The overall aim is to build a critical mass of thoughtful and original scholarship regarding Islam as a religion as well as the cultures and civilizations of Muslim societies and communities, both in the United States and abroad. Recognizing that in order for ideas to influence society they must be widely communicated to a variety of audiences, the fellowship emphasizes the communication of scholarly research beyond the academic community to policymakers and the public.

The program annually awards up to 20 fellowships for a period of one to two years and for a maximum amount of $100,000. At the end of the fellowship period, scholars submit a written report along with books or manuscripts prepared as a result of the Corporation’s support.

Because MU is limited to two nominations, applicants’ prospectuses and curriculum vitae must be received by the Office of Research, 205 Jesse Hall, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, August 19, 2005. Please be aware that applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Amount: The maximum amount available will be $100,000.
