The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) is accepting applications for its Clinical Scientist Awards in Translational Research program. The purpose of the program is to support established physician-scientists who are dedicated to translational research. The program helps to protect award recipients’ time to pursue the vital link between basic and clinical research and to train the next generation of investigators skilled in translational research. The awards are intended to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to explore fundamental scientific questions, to apply the resulting knowledge at the bedside, and to bring insights from the clinical setting back to the laboratory for further exploration. BWF hopes these efforts will lead to a better understanding of disease mechanisms and to new methods of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease.

Because MU is limited in the number of nominations it may make, letters of intent should be submitted to the Office of Research, 203 Jesse Hall, no later than 5:00 pm Friday, August 19, 2005. Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a 3-page research abstract, including identification of proposed collaborators.

Amount: $150,000 per year for 5 years.
MU Deadline: 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2005
Agency Deadline:

September 1, 2005
