The Howard Hughes Medical Institute is dedicated to biomedical research and education.  Through its grants and special programs, HHMI seeks to strengthen science education and biomedical research by supporting current and future leaders to advance scientific knowledge, develop educational products, and implement outstanding educational practices.

The 2006 Undergraduate Science Education Program will support initiatives that strengthen education in the biological sciences and other scientific disciplines as they relate to biology.  The undergraduate program provides funding in the following four principal areas: Student research and broadening access to science; New, current, and future faculty development; Curriculum, equipments, and laboratory development; and Precollege and other outreach.

The Office of Research is coordinating faculty members who are interested in participating in MU application to this program.  Those who are interested should communicate ideas and interest via email to Bryan Ross ( by 5:00 p.m. on May 10.

Amount: $1.2 - $2.2 million
MU Deadline: 5:00 p.m., May 10, 2005
Foundation Deadlines: May 12, 2005 (register intent to apply)
  October 18, 2005 (proposal deadline)
