The National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) encourages the submission of individual animal resource improvement grant applications to support biomedical research. Animal resource improvement grants are awarded to assist in upgrading animal facilities and developing administratively centralized and uniformly effective programs of research animal care in support of PHS-funded research. Another major objective is to assist institutions in complying, and maintaining compliance, with provisions of the USDA Animal Welfare Act and DHHS policies related to the care and use of laboratory animals. Support is limited to alterations and renovations to improve laboratory animal facilities, and the purchase of major equipment items for animal resources, diagnostic laboratories, transgenic animal resources, or similar associated activities.

Because MU is limited in the number of applications it may make to this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, 203 Jesse Hall, by 5:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2005. Letters of intent should be limited to 3 pages and include an identification of the of the facilities and the plan for improvement along with a budget outline.

Amount: $700,000. Cost match is NOT required.
MU Deadline: April 1, 2005
