Limited Submission Announcement

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is accepting applications for the Doctoral Dissertation Award. ACM established this program to recognize and encourage superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in computer science and engineering. Dissertations will be reviewed for technical depth and significance of the research contribution, potential impact on theory and practice, and quality of presentation.

Each nominated dissertation must have been accepted by the department within a 12-month period prior to the nomination deadline. Exceptional dissertations completed in August, but too late for submission last year will be considered. Only English language versions will be accepted. Each nomination shall be forwarded by the thesis advisor and must include the endorsement of the department head. Each nomination must be accompanied by an assignment to ACM by the author of exclusive publication rights.

Because MU is limited to one application annually for this program (two if more than 10 Ph.D.s are granted in one year), letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2010. Letters of intent should be limited to two pages and should include a brief description of the project and a summary of the significance of the dissertation.

The author of the winning dissertation will receive $20,000 and the Honorable Mention winner will receive $10,000.
