Limited Submission Announcement

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) invites applications for the Conservation Project Support (CPS) Program to help museums identify conservation needs and priorities, and perform activities to ensure the safekeeping of their collections. CPS grants help museums develop and implement a logical, institution-wide approach to caring for their living and material collections. Applicants should apply for the project that meets one of the institution's highest conservation needs. All applications must demonstrate that the primary goal of the project is conservation care, and not collection management or maintenance. Grants are available for many types of conservation activities, including surveys (general, detailed condition, or environmental); training; treatment; and environmental improvements. Museums are encouraged to share the impact of conservation activities with their communities through outreach and programs.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010. Letters of intent should be limited to three pages and should include 1) statement of need; 2) project goals and objectives; 3) a description of the object(s), historic structure(s), or specimen(s) that will be the focus of the project; 4) conditions to which the object(s), historic structure(s) or specimen(s) are currently exposed and why they merit attention at this time; 5) conservation methods in terms of efficiency, reliability, and safety; and 6) names of three MU personnel who could serve as internal reviewers for letters of intent under this program.

Awards range from $5,000 to $150,000 with a total project period of up to 3years. A one-to-one cost share is required.
