Limited Submission Announcement

The CGS Advisory Committee for the Gustave O. Arlt Award in the Humanities requests nominations for the 2010 competition in the field of Classical Studies/Archaeology. Gustave O. Arlt (1895-1986) established the award that bears his name to provide recognition each year to a young scholar who has written a book that represents an outstanding contribution to scholarship in the humanities. To be eligible for competition, the nominee must meet the criteria stated below:

  1. The recipient must have received the doctorate within seven years of the award, and currently be teaching at a North American university.
  2. The recipient must have taken the degree at a North American university.
  3. The book being considered must have been published within seven years of the award. The book must have been written in or translated into English.
  4. The book must represent an outstanding contribution to scholarship in the field.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 pm Friday, March 26, 2010. Letters of intent should be limited to two pages and include a synopsis of the nominee’s book as well as a summary of the scholarly contribution made by the nominee’s book.

Amount:

A stipend of $1,000, a certificate and reasonable travel expenses to attend the annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on December 1-4, 2010.

Campus Deadline for Letter of Intent:

4:00 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2010

External Proposal Deadlines:

April 1, 2010
