Limited Submission Announcement

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) invites applications for the Faculty Development Grant. The program recognizes the need to attract, recruit, and retain highly-qualified individuals in academic teaching careers.  Funding supports faculty and their research in the nuclear-related fields of Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, Radiochemistry and related disciplines as determined by the NRC to develop a workforce capable of the design, construction, operation, and regulation of nuclear facilities and the safe handling of nuclear materials.The grants specifically target probationary, tenure-track faculty members in these academic areas during the first six years of their careers.  The program enables new faculty to enhance their careers as professors and researchers in their university departments.

Grants may include support for developing applications for research and amounts for initiating or continuing research projects. Other areas might include course development, equipment stipends, participation in professional society meetings, preparation of papers, travel, support for graduate assistants, and associated expenses as related to research projects or an institution’s faculty development plan. 

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009.  Letters of intent should be limited to three pages and should briefly summarize 1) how the faculty participant(s) will be selected; 2) source(s) of any cost match or other support to be provided for participants; 3) faculty development plan; 4) management structure for the program, including documentation of any collaboration across MU departments/units; and 5) evaluation and follow-up plans as participant(s) work through the development plan.
