Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award
Limited Submission AnnouncementThe Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award provides grants to junior physician-scientists to facilitate their transition to independent clinical research careers. The transition to an independent research career is often more difficult for physician-scientists conducting clinical research than it is for other researchers, as these individuals must balance both the demands of seeing patients with those of conducting research. It is the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's hope that by providing stable support at a critical career juncture for physician-scientists, the Clinical Scientist Development Award will encourage physicians to pursue careers in clinical research. For the purposes of this award program, clinical research is defined as research conducted with human subjects with direct application to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or cure of any human disease. Note that experiments that utilize animals or primary tissues derived from animals will not be supported by this program. The Foundation’s definition of clinical research includes studies on the etiology and pathogenesis of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, epidemiological studies, disease control research, and/or operations and implementation research. Because MU is limited to two applications for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2009. Letters of intent should be limited to a two-page summary of the proposed research, its originality and methods, along with a two-page biographical sketch of the nominee.
