Limited Submission Announcement

The NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) and its cosponsors invite institutional career development award applications for Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) Career Development Programs, hereafter termed "Programs." Programs will support mentored research career development of junior faculty members, known as BIRCWH Scholars, who have recently completed clinical training or postdoctoral fellowships, and who will be engaged in interdisciplinary basic, translational, behavioral, clinical, and/or health services research relevant to women's health or sex/gender factors.

The goal of this initiative is to increase the number and skills of investigators through a mentored research and career development experience leading to an independent interdisciplinary scientific career that will benefit the health of women, including research on sex/gender similarities or differences in biology, health or disease. Programs will accomplish these goals by ensuring that mentors represent diverse disciplines needed to carry out interdisciplinary projects that will bridge training with research independence for BIRCWH scholars.

Because MU is limited to one application for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research, ltdsub@missouri.edu, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009. Letters of intent should be no more than 3 pages and should include 1) the administrative structure and oversight of the program, 2) the selection process of BIRCWH Scholars, and 3) a brief description of the interdisciplinary career development program and its resources.

Awards maybe up to $500,000 in total costs [up to $100,000 for administrative total costs and up to $400,000 for scholar total costs] annually per award.
