Limited Submission Announcement

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Established Investigator Award in Cancer Prevention & Control (K05) provides qualified cancer prevention, control, behavioral, and/or population scientists with protected time to devote to research and to mentoring new investigators. Eligible candidates must have track records of successful independent research funding and mentoring. At the time of the K05 award, candidates must have independent R01 research funding or its equivalent in a research area related to cancer prevention and control.

Because MU is limited to one application per cycle for this program, letters of intent must be submitted to the Office of Research,, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2009. Letters of intent should include a 2-page biographical sketch and a 2-page summary of the following: 1) research experiences, skills and accomplishments; 2) short- and long-term research and career objectives; and 3) past and current involvement in mentoring new and junior investigators.


The K05 award will provide salary support of 25 to 50 percent of the institutional base salary (up to the current Federal salary cap limit) for three to five years based on a full-time, 12-month staff appointment, plus fringe benefits. The award requires the candidate to devote a minimum of 25 percent of full-time professional effort towards conducting the experimental research plan and the mentoring activities described in the application. The award also provides $25,000 per year in research-related expenses.
