National Academy of Sciences Names Colwill 'Lifetime National Associate'

COLUMBIA, Mo. Dr. Jack Colwill, professor emeritus with MU's Department of Family and Community Medicine, has been named a lifetime national associate of The National Academies. Colwill was elected an IOM member in 1989. He chaired the IOM committee Gulf War and Health: A Review of Literature on Pesticides and Solvents and an ad hoc IOM committee that completed an updated literature review of Sarin, a chemical warfare agent.

Colwill joined MU’s School of Medicine faculty in 1964 and was appointed chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine in 1976. He led the department for 21 years, and today, due in large part to his leadership and dedicated efforts, MU's family medicine program is recognized as one of the country's premier family medicine programs.
