Facts about the Campus IRB
The Campus IRB is comprised of a diverse membership with the scientific expertise and regulatory knowledge to review human subject research activities primarily from the Behavioral and Social Sciences research community. Researchers from other disciplines often collaborate with researchers under the jurisdiction of the Campus IRB, and will be required to comply with all Campus IRB policies and procedures governing research involving humans.
The Campus IRB office is located in 483 McReynolds Hall with convenient parking in RC-9 adjacent to the building. The office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm. Please contact the Campus IRB if you have questions about the IRB process.
Campus IRB Responsibilities
The Campus IRB's review processes are consistent with the terms and conditions of the institution's assurance agreement with DHHS, as well as the principles in the Belmont Report.
The Campus IRB's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects involved in research projects conducted under the jurisdiction or sponsored by MU.
- Reviewing, approving, monitoring, requiring modification, or disapproving all research activities involving the use of human subjects.
- Approving modifications of previously approved research.
- Providing continuing review of all human subject research activities, at least annually, and more often if deemed necessary to protect participants.
- Taking any measures necessary to assure the safety of each and all human subject participants.

Staff/Contact Information
The Office of Research assures that the administrative infrastructure of the Campus IRB shall operate with an adequate amount of personnel and sufficient accommodations to adequately carry out the responsibilities of the Campus IRB. The IRB review operations are conducted with the direct assistance of administrative staff members that perform a variety of delegated functions.
The staff is comprised of individuals who shall possess the professional qualifications to assure human subject research activities are in compliance with the policies and procedures of the Campus IRB and federal regulations. The staff shall make every effort to facilitate an efficient and comprehensive review of all research proposals by coordinating activities between the board membership and research team members.
The Campus IRB review operations and staff are under the direction of the Campus IRB Compliance Officer, who shall serve as the Administrator over the Campus IRB.

Charles M. Borduin, PhD, is Professor
of Psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Director
of the Missouri Delinquency Project. He received his doctorate
in clinical psychology from the University of Memphis and
interned at Rutgers Medical School. Dr. Borduin is the co-developer
of multisystemic therapy, a family-based therapeutic approach
that has been identified as an effective treatment for violence
and other serious antisocial behaviors in adolescents. His
research has been funded by various federal agencies, including
the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute
on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Dr. Borduin has published
more than 100 journal articles, book chapters, and books on
the development and validation of effective mental health
services for youth with complex clinical problems, and he
has served as a national and international consultant to government
and private agencies on the reform of children’s mental health
services. |

Janelle
Greening is the Quality Assurance Associate for the Campus
IRB, monitoring the continuing quality assurance of all internal
IRB operations, review and auditing processes. She has responsibilities
in the areas of human subject research education, staff and
membership trainings, and community outreach activities. She
earned a BS in Human Environmental Sciences from the University
of Missouri-Columbia and her Master's in Business Administration
at William Woods University.
