Funding cuts mandated by the Congressional Budget Control Act of July 2011, the "sequester," continue to take a significant toll on institutions like MU, making it more difficult for our faculty scientists and scholars to achieve research and development advances crucial to the nation's prosperity. As U.S. Dept. of Education Secretary Arne Duncan put it during a recent Senate hearing: “Education isn’t just another number in the budget. Education is fundamentally an investment. It’s an investment in the future of our children, our economy, our competitiveness and our country.” The Office of Research has created this web page to provide our faculty, staff and students with up-to-date information on sequestration and its effects.
