Nichols to Direct Industrial Research Relations

Mike Nichols. In July 2005, Vice Provost for Research Jim Coleman announced that Michael Nichols would direct the Office of Industrial Research Relations, a new University organization charged with increasing the amount and quality of MU's research agreements with private industry. Nichols is the former state director of the Missouri Federal and State Technology Program, MoFAST, and the SBIR/STTR State Assistance Centers for the University of Missouri Extension and Small Business Development Centers.

As head of Industrial Research Relations, Nichols will act as the key point of contact between faculty researchers and their private sector partners when negotiating agreements. This will allow him, according to Coleman, to "sit at the table" with those responsible for intellectual property management and for sponsored research program agreements.

"I am thrilled that Michael has agreed to join us and bring his proven experience to enhance university-industry partnerships," Coleman said. "His knowledge of university and industrial cultures makes him the ideal person for this position. I am confident that his extensive contacts and energetic approach will result in win-win relationships between the University and its corporate partners."
