Research, Instruction and Public Service FY 2004 Totals

During the previous fiscal year, scientists and scholars at MU generated high levels of both research and instruction and public service funding support. While total expenditures declined slightly in FY 2004 (as shown in the total sponsored research bar chart below) the trend toward sponsored research growth at MU is likely to continue. One reason is investment. Because a significant portion of research dollars expended during the past two years went toward constructing and upgrading facilities, MU now boasts more of the world-class research infrastructure necessary to conduct greater numbers of important investigations. Support for our current faculty investigators, meanwhile, has continued to trend strongly upward. As the chart at bottom shows, when construction funds are excluded, MU investigators have posted robust funding gains for the past five years in a row.
